Is Responsive Web Design Important?

What is Responsive Web Design?

A responsive website is one that is developed to display perfectly on all devices such as laptops, smart phones, tablets, desktops etc. While creating a responsive website, it is important to keep certain factors in mind such as touch screens, screen size, pixel resolution, flash technology support, screen layouts, navigation, images, text, audio, video players, UI elements and many more aspects. So gone are the days of creating a completely separate website for mobiles. Responsive allows designers to create one website that responds to the end users device and present a perfect website.

Importance of a Responsive Website

Almost everybody these days has a smart device that they use to communicate, work and access a variety of options. Before the launch of such devices, web designers had to deal with only one concept of a website – that is to keep the same look and feel on different computer browsers. However creating websites to response on smart devices is completely different and in fact have added another challenge. Essentially, if the end user isn’t getting a great experience, they’re less likely to buy into your services.

Stay Competitive

We’re guessing that you want to stay ahead of your competition? So it is important that your company is up-to-date with the latest trends. Recent studies have proven that the use of smart devices is increasing and people are accessing websites on their mobiles to make the purchases. So you will need to provide a mobile-friendly website to the users in order to stay competitive and possibly stand out from the crowd.

WordPress powers over 20% of the world’s websites.

So, if it’s free, why not make use of the following 8 ways to improve your Google ranking by using WordPress.

1. Good Website Content

Google uses your website content when ranking your website. It is on the constant search for good and honest content. From a client point of view your content should be useful and easy to understand. Write it with the aim that you genuinely want to help people and that you want them to take full advantage of it. Keep it very simple, clean, concise and up-to-date.

How?

You can control the majority of your websites content yourself through the WordPress platform. You might just need to ask your web design company for editor access.

2. Link Building

Link building is also one of the most important techniques to improve the Google ranking of your website. It is valuable to link your website with the reputable websites that already rank at the top of the Google.

How?

You can do this by guest blogging. This is creating blog articles for the popular websites and in return they can offer you a back link from their website. In addition to that, you can do comment posting on the popular blogs and forums that will ultimately enhance your credibility and as long as you share good and relevant material, people will love to read through your stuff. Don’t spam.

3. Quality Keywords

Instead of using too many keywords, it is important to use appropriate keywords in your content.

How?

Sit down and think which key phrases people use to search for you on Google and incorporate these into your website’s content.

4. Meta Tags

The use of keywords, title, meta tags and meta description is often called an on-page optimisation. You should form relevant and unique titles for each of your pages. The Meta tags and description should clearly describe what your page is about.

How?

There are many plug-ins out there that will allow you to do this for free – but amongst the most common for the WordPress content management system is Yoast.

5. XML Sitemap

An XML sitemap is an important tool which helps search engines like Google to easily and quickly crawl every page of a website. It allows them to efficiently navigate across your website. This way, the content of your website can be easily accessed.

How?

Again, there are many plug-ins that allow you to do this but our favourite is Google XML Sitemaps.

6. Social Media

Today, social media plays a vital role in getting your website in front of your target audience. People interact socially with each other on the internet that helps them to gain and share knowledge.

How?

There are many social media websites and applications i.e. Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Blogs, Pinterest etc. Sign up for an account and use them with the aim of helping others.

7. Alt Tags

Alt tags, or alternate tags, are text that are displayed if an image cannot be viewed. This text is also displayed in some browsers if you hover over an image. Most importantly for us though alt tags have a strong association with Google. Alt tags are used to describe the images so we’d recommend adding a key phrase to each one. It enables Google to quickly and efficiently understand the content of your website and produce the results in a positive way.

How?

Switch from Visual to Text view on your WordPress page and find your image tag and add your alt text like this:

<img src=”image.jpg” alt=”alt text here” />

8. Track Your Visitors

Learning about your target audience is a constant process. During the course of SEO process, it is important to keep track on the efforts you make on a regular basis. This will not only offer you the opportunity to fix the routine issues but also enable you to generate leads and sales. Google Webmaster tools can you give you some important information about your website’s functionality and a quick insight of how your website is operating and how to enhance the process.

How?
